Yesterday in my excitement at finding this site I forgot to say that the streets mentioned are of all in Heppthorne Lane, and it was Mr. & Mrs Jim Whitingham that had the two daughters, Joyce and Barbara, Joyce the eldest did get married and went to live in near by Clay Cross, I do not know about Barbara's later life, also Jim & Nizzer ? went to live at Pilsley and lost contact with them.

Just found this site today, 03.03.2011, I enjoyed many holidays at relations in Station Road and New Street (and later behind the P.O. in Berry Street), Mr & Mrs John & Anne Smith in Station Road and Mr & Mrs Jim Williamson ? in New Street & Later Berry Street who had two girls, just wondering if these two girls (Ladies by now) still live in the area ?.

Lovely  to see some of the old photos, especially the one of Wingfield School.  From 1961 - 1070 I used to live at 40 School Yard (a row of 4 miners' cottages) which were up the lane behind the Club and the School.  Unfortunately they are no longer there.

I have just discovered this brilliant site. I have been researching the Cresswell's of North Wingfield. My grandfather was born in Tupton, possibly Jubilee Cottages, then the family moved to Hepthorne Lane. I have visited St Lawrence church where many members of the family are buried including my namesake. I have not, to date, been able to trace what happened to the Cresswell's after my great great grandfather/mother died, apart from my direct line which moved to the Birmingham area. Is there anyone in the area who has been researching this family. My great great grandfathers name was Abraham Cresswell born 1850 in Clay Lane.

Your fantastic website has inspired me to keep searching!

I am trying to find any information about the Berry family of Thornlea ,Hepthorne Lane .I have an old violin labelled R.W.Berry dated 1912 .The family was included in the 1911 census at this address and both Mr.Berry and his wife were listed as teachers.Mr.Berry is included as a music teacher of violin.Does anybody remember the house or the family , is Berry Street off Station road of any significance.

Your website has given me some background as to the place and lives these people may have led. This is always very important to me when i restore and play old violins , particularly when finding such a great instrument brings me so much pleasure almost 100years later. Thanks again for the great website.
