Hi

This is a wonderful site and bought back many memories from my childhood. My immediate Family still live in Hepthorne Lane, but my extended family come from all over North Wingfield.

I really enjoyed the site, but i can think of one improvement. :- In the northwingfield past section it would be a good idea to take a picture of the present day location from the same place and angle if possible, for people to compare and contrast the changes and the similarities (like the view of church hill, which is almost identical but for a tarmac road and cars, instead of an old road and horse and cart) I know I would really love that and some others that I have spoken to said the same.

Get in touch if you wish
Lee.

Just discovered your fascinating site (my sister found it first!) I am the gr. gr. grandson of John La Touche mentioned in
picture 1 in the Clay X Station link. He moved to Birmingham 1850/51. Would love to hear from anybody else researching the
family or with any other info about John. Why he should leave beautiful Derbyshire for smokey Brum has always puzzled me...
Kind regards - & keep up the good work!

Really enjoyed looking at all the old pics, i was wondering if anyone knew of any old cottages or houses that were up in the farmers fields at the back of williamthorpe close. I have seen lots of old plates pottery etc there.

i use to live in northwingfield until 1971. when williamthorpe pit closed down we had to move to nottingham so my dad could go to work in a new colliery . I was 10 years old at the time and absolutely devastated. I had to leave all my friends behind in the junior school... having still got distant relatives in the derbyshire area, I have been back a few times, just passing through northwingfield evokes old memories, I was so upset to see most of the houses boarded up on Alma rd, ( where I used to live), but thankful that my old house was still intact and lived in...No. 24.. I was hoping to find some old photographs of the 1960's . Ive really enjoyed looking at your site.

Excellent site with a great deal of local information. Really enjoyed searching it and even came across a photograph of my uncle-Norman Collings-on the 1955 North Wingfield Junior School football team. Both he and my auntie taught at North Wingfield Junior School for all their teaching career.
Also have many ancestors who worked down the local pits so your photographs were a real eye opener.

I Love North Wingfield
